Last One for A While

Some of you might know this, and some of you might not, but I’m leaving tomorrow morning for a two month job planting trees in Northern Ontario. I’ll be gone until sometime until the beginning/middle of July. So that means there will be no more blog posts for quite some time. I might try to get something out on one of my days off, if I can find internet access somewhere.

I hope I’ll still have all my readers when I get back.

Observations on Stats

I’ve noticed a few things about the numbers of readers my blog gets:

If I write a post and tag it with technology, theres a spike.

If I don’t post until the evening, there’s a drop.

If I don’t post for a few days, no one seems to care.

Meh, I might post something more interesting later on today

As everyone should know from reading this blog I love signing up to new sites that are supposed to make my life easier.

Today I’ve joined coComment

Using a Firefox extention it keeps track of all my comments on all the blogs I visit. All I have to do is browse to my personal page and I see them all arranged. Similar to the Gmail conversation features.

This might be one site that I actually end up using a lot. Not like Virb

More RSS Feeds

I just finished mowing the lawn and now I’m relaxing with a cold beer. On Saturdays you can start drinking before noon. Its not wrong.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with Facebook mobile. Constantly updating my status has become like a low budget blog. Which gives me a great idea.

Look to the right….. see that new RSS feed? That’s my current Facebook status. Cool eh?

Ideas That Wouldn’t Work

So with the advent of Facebook mobile, Twitter and even Gmail on your mobile phone. I started thinking how awesome it would be if all these sites were rolled into one. You’d sign in to a service that collects all the information from every social networking site or email client you belong to. Then when any thing of importance, messages, emails, etc. would be sent via SMS to your mobile.

Then I realized this was probably almost useless. I know all these sites already use SMS. I just wanted a way to aggregate them all together.

Twitter and Facebook : Making Them Play Together

The beauty of the new media and web 2.0 is its ability to work well with other services. I spend most of my times figuring out how I can combine all the different sites I’m a member of into one aggregated area.  Facebook and Twitter is a great illustration of this.

A while back I wrote about how Twitter could be improved. Then I wrote about how Facebook had replaced Twitter . I didn’t really want to completely abandon Twitter though, I like the clean interface and the SMS are slightly better then Facebook. But I didn’t want to be updating the same status on two different sites. At the Geek Dinner last night William Spaetzel told me about twitterfeed. Using this you can update your Facebook status and it in turn updates your Twitter status. It was a little tricky getting to work so I’m going to give you a walkthrough of how its done.

Sign into facebook and browse to your profile. Click on see all in your mini feed. On the right hand side under view click Status Stories. This will now bring up just your status updates. Again on the right hand side you can Subscribe To These Stories. Copy this link.

Browse over to Twitterfeed. Follow their instructions for logging on. When it asks for the RSS feed put in the link you copied from Facebook.

And there you go, everything is set and your Facebook status is now on Twitter.

Nothing to Interesting Here…

I’m currently listening to Michael Buble – Home. Don’t tell anyone though, but its actually a great song.

 

Last night I went out to dinner with Mike, Kate and Joel. Hit up Jambalya. None of us had ever been there and its actually a really great place. Awesome atmosphere and the food was delicious. And as a student bonus, not to expensive.

After dinner Joel, Eddie and I saw Disturbia. I’m still not quite sure what to make of it. It was quite a good movie but there were a few points where I was confused as to what was going on. I would reccomend it though, good entertainment.

Updatation

Wow, its been a crazy last couple of days for me. Which is why I haven’t been able to post anything. I’ll give you a run down of whats been going on.

Friday April 27th: I had my last exam on 4th year. It went amazing well, mostly because the prof cut 3/4 of what he said was going to be on it. So in the end I studied more then I had to but know everything. After the exam we went to the Spoke for some post exam drinks. Only at a campus bar does it fill up before 11:30. Ran into some other people from fourth year bio and we chatted for a while. After that it was down to the east side for Mary Brown’s chicken and taters with Derek and Aaron Ross. Good to catch up with the boys before the summer. Finally Joel, Eddie and I drove up to Toronto for a Jays game at the Rogers Centre. Joel was amazed that we’d never been there. Ed and I don’t really like baseball so thats the only reason we went. It was a fun time though again lots of time to catch up on the drive.

Saturday April 28th: Went and bought some boots from Mark’s Work-Warehouse. I needed them for tree planting this summer so I wanted to get some and break them in. In the afternoon we watched the home opener of Toronto FC. It was great to see some homegrown football. The crowd was amazing, standing the whole game and chanting away. We decided to see as many games as we can. Maybe even hit up an away game. Saturday night had a pint with Kate and Mike.

Sunday April 29th: Relaxing

Monday April 30th: This was interesting. I spent the day working with Eddie and Aaron on their framing crew. It was actually quite a bit of fun. The day went by quickly which was good. I might try to see if I can do a few more shifts with them before we leave
